Remnant Somerville Raises a Glass to Community

With a rotating tap selection in the evening and fresh coffee during the daytime, Remnant Somerville has something brewing for everyone. Started in 2018, Remnant Somerville has quickly grown with a newly-opened Satellite location in Cambridge. General Manager Brittany Lajoie shares how their original location in Bow Market continues to keep community at its core with local events and weekly pop-ups.

Tell us about Remnant!

We are a cafe and craft microbrewery in the heart of vibrant Union Square. We strive to build community within our space, offer an often-changing menu, and be an excellent place to work in our neighborhood.

What inspired you to start a business? How did this feeling grow once you actually started your business?

Craft beer is all about good times and friends. What could be better than making great beer ourselves, and serving it to folks who quickly become friends!? It's also incredibly empowering to be a place for our employees to work as they go to school, explore various full-time career options, and start families. We've been here to see many of them through a lot of life changes! It's incredible to work with inspiring people who love the business and have built the community that is so strong in our space.

What aspect of your business makes you most proud to be a business leader in our community?

I'm proud to create an excellent product, our beer! Made right here in Union Square. I'm always proud when we get the opportunity to invite our neighbors into our space, like the Chamber of Commerce mixers and the Best of Somerville Awards. 

How do you #LoveUnionSquare?

We are always trying to collaborate, shout out, and support our neighbors! Union Square is an amazing place to eat and drink, and guests who visit us are often looking for other recommendations. Our staff takes pride in knowing our neighbors and curating an evening of additional destinations to our guests. 

Is there anything else you think a Square customer would like to know?

There's not enough time in a day to enjoy everything Union Square has to offer—come back often!
