Parenting Journey Creates Successful Communities

With offices in Union Square, Parenting Journey’s reach expands beyond our Square in order to uplift families in communities nationwide. Parenting Journey began as a program working directly with families in their facility at 366 Somerville Avenue, and have since pivoted to facilitator training programs, bringing lessons learned to families across the country.

While their current reach may be online-based, Parenting Journey stands firm on roots in the Union Square Community. Read on to learn more about the work they do in and outside of the Square!

Tell us a little about Parenting Journey!

Parenting Journey is a non profit organization that develops and teaches life changing strategies to facilitators through our strength based trauma informed curriculum. 

We opened in 1981 as The Family Center and worked directly with families. Around the turn of the millennia the business changed to Parenting Journey, Inc. A few years back our focus changed from direct service to training facilitators. 

Once graduated from our training courses, those facilitators implement our Parenting Journey programs within their communities. Our goal is to help all families and communities thrive.

What aspect of your business makes you most proud to be in our community?

We may not all be parents but we were all parented which in a unique way is a unifier. Our programs take time to reflect on our own upbringing, and explore the connection between how we were parented and how we are raising our own children, while also promoting self-care strategies.

How do you #LoveUnionSquare?

We love Union Square Farmers Market the most! Fresh tomatoes are a highlight of summer. There are also so many delicious restaurants—during the nice weather we especially like checking out Bow Market and enjoying lunch outside around the Square.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Parenting Journey is currently running most of our facilitator trainings online, but we do have one or two in-persons a year. Check out our website to join us for an upcoming facilitator training.
