Louis Meola’s most recent body of work continues his investigations of the objects his late grandfather left in his workspace. With a practice based on the concept that the print serves as direct evidence of the existence of the object printed, Meola uses photopolymer plates for this series to increase the scale of corroded brass scrap. Visual information becomes lost through printing, scanning, scaling up, and reprinting. Process emphasizes material degradation as a reflection of the dementia his grandfather suffered throughout the final years of his life. These insignificant fragments of material reveal the effects of time on forgotten objects within this workspace.
