Bill Frisell, Tony Scherr, and Rudy Royston

  • The Center for Arts at the Armory Performance Hall 191 Highland Ave #1C Somerville, MA 02143 USA (map)

Get ready for a phenomenal night of jazz as legendary guitarist and composer Bill Frisell takes the stage with Tony Scherr on bass and Rudy Royston on drums as part of Arts at the Armory’s Spotlight Series. With a career spanning over four decades, Frisell has become one of the most celebrated jazz musicians of our time, with Downbeat magazine citing his catalog as "the best recorded output of the decade."

In 2012, Frisell was named an inaugural Doris Duke Artist and has received grants from United States Artists and Meet the Composer. He served as Resident Artistic Director for Jazz at Lincoln Center's Roots of Americana series from 2013-2015 and was a beneficiary of the first FreshGrass Composition commission in 2016. Frisell has also been a Resident Artistic Director for San Francisco Jazz.

Joining Frisell on stage are Tony Scherr on bass and guitar and Rudy Royston on drums. Scherr, a New York-based jazz musician, has played with Woody Herman and performed in the Lounge Lizards and Russ Gershon's Either/Orchestra. Royston, originally from Fort Worth, Texas, has been a professional teacher, drummer, and percussionist for nearly 20 years and has played with numerous jazz greats, including Javon Jackson, Les McCann, and The Mingus Big Band.

Together with Frisell, Scherr and Royston create a dynamic trio that showcases their vast musical talents and range of experience. Experience an incredible Spotlight Series performance at Arts at the Armory on May 28th!
