Arts at the Armory Spotlight Series Presents John Scofield Solo Guitar

  • The Center for Arts at the Armory Performance Hall 191 Highland Ave #1C Somerville, MA 02143 USA (map)

Three-time Grammy Award winner John Scofield, a jazz innovator who has collaborated with Miles Davis and Chet Baker, comes to Arts at the Armory’s Spotlight Series on April 1st. Scofield is a “stylistic chameleon” with more than 40 recordings under his belt, and moves seamlessly between blues, jazz funk, and orchestral ensembles.

The acclaimed master Jazz improviser takes on a thrilling challenge with solo guitar. Scofield's new creative exploration comes from the realization that between his first practice sessions as a teenager, to jamming in hotel rooms while on tour, he has played guitar for 59 years. The Solo Guitar concert in the historic Performance Hall will be an introspective evening as Scofield shares his favorite jazz, rock, and country songs, along with some original compositions.

“Scofield’s exercise of unconventional playing embraces the kind of musical exploration that drives jazz forward with optimism.” - All About Jazz
