Markets in Union Square Seek Volunteers, Interns

The Saturday Union Square Farmers Market and the Thursday evening specialty foods market called Swirl & Slice seek volunteers to help us keep it running smoothly.

Get involved in the local food movement, build relationships with area farms and your neighbors, and help grow two markets that are generating positive changes in Union Square.

Among the projects we need help with:

Market Assistance: Answering customer inquiries, assisting vendors, market set-up and break-down.

Specialized Tasks: Writing blog posts relevant to the market such as vendor interviews, recipes using market products, background on the importance of local food.  Children’s activities at the market.  Outreach to low-income communities to increase SNAP (food stamp) redemption. Identifying appropriate performers.

Educational Programming: Lead a workshop on wine, cheese, food preservation or other topic related to the specialty foods at Swirl & Slice.  Lead a tour to area food related businesses.

Management Assistance: Conduct surveys of market attendees.  Assist with database of market products and conduct inventory of items at market during select market days.  Data entry.
