Artisan’s Asylum, Growing Fast!
This fall, Artisan’s Asylum is moving into a 25,000 square foot, temperature-controlled, ground floor warehouse space. The organization, after just one year, is expanding and professionalizing all of their shop spaces, hiring full-time staff, and providing over 15,000 square feet of rental studio space to over 100 artists, artisans, entrepreneurs and small businesses. Their goal: to become the well-equipped workshop, studio, or garage that every creative type in Somerville, Cambridge and Boston has ever dreamed of.
They are hosting an open house and fundraising event at their new space at 10 Tyler Street in Somerville on July 9, 2011 from 7-11PM. A $25 suggested donation at the door will help defray the costs to move and equip the new space.
Schedule for the night includes:
+ A Meet & Greet from 7-8PM, complete with complimentary food and drink and tours of the vision of the new space
+ Presentations at 8PM from Gui Cavalcanti, President of Artisan’s Asylum, Inc., and Stephen Houdlette, Economic Development Specialist in Somerville’s Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development
+ Performances throughout the night from Esh Aerial Arts, Andrew Insect & Ace and others
+ Music later on by DJ madDELISH
They will have several pieces of installation art on display throughout the space, depictions of our vision of our new layout, gallery presentations of work created either at Artisan’s Asylum or by Asylum members, instructors or volunteers, information tables about all of our upcoming programs and opportunities, and complimentary food and drink throughout the night.
Voice Class at Third Life Explores Psyche
For anyone wishing to explore the interface between voice and psyche, Mali Sastri is leading an 8 week group class at Third Life Studio.
The voice is uniquely suited for dealing with psychological matter ~ it is a bridge between the inner world of emotion, thought, and feeling, and the outer world of relationship, discourse and interaction. These are no ordinary singing lessons, yet the results are often the same ~ increased range, strength, and dexterity of the vocal instrument, plus a deeper understanding of and ability to express the Self through singing.
Mali is a Voice Movement Therapy practitioner and trained with the innovator of Voice Movement Therapy, Paul Newham, in London, England, as well as with members of the International Association of Voice Movement Therapists.
The class takes place July 7th to August 25th, 2011 on 8 consecutive Thursday evenings, 7:30pm – 9pm. $150 for entire workshop
