The Somerville Arts Council, through its ArtsUnion initiative, explores food as a way to embrace all the cultural diversity of Union Square. With a cluster of authentic restaurants and markets from all over the world and a neighborhood of culinary adventurers and creative types, food is a perfect combination of all the things we love.

Food tells endless stories about cultural identity and everyone – regardless of language or background — everyone loves to share it and talk about it. It provides a point around which we can gather and learn about one another. There’s a wonderful richness when the worlds of food and art combine — whether it’s a chef creating artful sushi or an artist using food as a subject or medium. And for Union Square, commerce and food overlap as the vibrancy of our food based businesses is the life blood of the neighborhood as a whole.
