Templeman Automation Builds Open Source Multi-Touch Table

Greater Union Square’s own Templeman Automation has launched a new Playsurface multi-touch table Kickstarter.

Playsurface is an inexpensive projection touch table that allows multiple users to interact intuitively with displayed graphics and action without using a mouse, menu, or keypad. The Playsurface can simultaneously track and interpret over one hundred touch events across the entire display area and is scalable from monitor- sized to room-sized. Plus, multi-finger, multi-hand, and even multi-person gestures can be defined and explored to perform software-specific functions.

Kickstarter campaigns allow artists. inventors, and other creators to raise money to launch their efforts.  The Templeman Automation campaign seeks to raise capital for electronics development and an initial production run.

Neighbors Taking Care of Perry Park

Last autumn’s Bulb Blitz brought out lots of volunteer energy as teams planted the annuals in parks across the city.

The handiwork at Perry Park of the neighborhood team.

Over at Perry Park, the residents are making the care of the park a year round effort.  Jennifer Kimball and other neighbors nearby have been caring for the green space.  They’ve been weeding by hand on a regular basis, eliminating the need for toxic weed killers, and are bringing a sharp hand to the edging along the paths.

Sadly it’s not all sunshine, flowers and feel-good neighborliness at Perry Park.  Dogs has been roaming off leash and harassing children to such an extent that many kids living nearby have been staying away.  Even on leash there’s been at least one negative, frightening experience with dogs as a girl was bitten and is now undergoing the painful and multi-stage treatment in case of rabies.  Alderman Maryann Heuston is planning to host a community meeting about how to respond and we’ll pass on details when those are available.

In the meantime, let’s all be good neighbors and encourage caretaking of the park for all.
